Kelley were looking to cast Zoe they thought "what if we cloned Shaleine Woodley? Is that legal in Australia?" and then they got lucky with Grace Van Patten. Michael Shannon and Samara Weaving are probably the stand-outs for me in terms of performances, but their characters are also the most-developed characters in the book at this point so maybe they have it easier.Īn aside- it feels like when Nicole Kidman and David E. The best scene for me was Jessica, Ben, and Napolean in the hot spring. The changes in tone don't always pay off- and sometimes it feels a little hokey - but I appreciate that they're not going for the same unstable camera/realistic dialogue approach that similar shows do. I like that the dialogue and performances are broad when they interact with each other but a little more focused when they're with themselves/the wellness consultants. "I mean to fuck with all of you" really sold me at the end.

It's moving faster, the characters are already more developed, and the camp is a much needed ingredient.

This episode deviated from the book a lot in good ways.
